The Woodend Lifestyle Carers Group are people like you. We aim to improve the lifestyle of carers and those they care for with memory loss. Serving all of the Macedon Ranges and its neighbours. Providing a place of comfort, understanding and support.
The group provides support and education to the carers and families of those they care for who live with dementia now and in the future, financed through fund-raising activities performed by members, community grants, philanthropic donations and benefactors.
As well as giving emotional and social support, the group undertakes educational workshops and forums with health professionals, legal representatives and financial advisors.
Activities are aimed at giving emotional support to carers on a regular basis and via the network of contacts created through membership thus allaying feelings of isolation created by the onset of the disease.
The educational benefit for carers is covered through representatives invited to speak or hold workshops from Dementia Australia, Carers Victoria, State Trustees, local State and Federal MPs, Victoria Police, aged care facilities and allied health professionals.
Advice is given on legal and financial matters and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as well as how to establish entitlements and assistance through MyAgedCare.
Social activities have included celebrating special lunches at a variety of venues both in the Macedon Ranges, and further afield. Coach trips have been organised to enjoy lunch on the Emmy Lou in Echuca; picnics at Werribee Zoo and Ballarat Wildlife Park; Point Cook Aircraft Museum; Woop Woop in Harcourt; and more locally, picnics at Trentham Rotary Park, Lauriston Reservoir, Edgar’s Mission in Lancefield and The Nook in Sunbury. Additionally, entertainments include musical afternoons, old time dancing and ‘cinema’ days.
The group endeavours to cover the many aspects of caring and is constantly expanding its horizons to assist both carers and their loved ones to maintain a good quality of life at home for as long as possible.
